The CARe project invites you to their upcoming webinar led by Cyrille Ewane Ngando on “Evaluating Community-based Surveillance Using the NYSS Digital Platform in Northern Cameroon: Lessons from a Red Cross-led Health Emergency Preparedness Initiative”.
Cyrille Ewane Ngando is an experienced epidemiologist and holds a Master of Public Health (MPH). Currently, he serves as the Head of the Epidemic Preparedness and Response Department at the Cameroon Red Cross. Cyrille has extensive experience in managing public health emergencies at community level, community-based surveillance, and local capacity building. He has coordinated several epidemic response projects, including interventions against Mpox, cholera, COVID-19, and Marburg virus disease. As a certified trainer for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Cyrille specialises in community epidemic preparedness and risk communication. His work is driven by a strong commitment to strengthening community resilience and promoting the One Health approach. Cyrille is passionate about applied research and intends to pursue a PhD in Public Health in the near future.
In this webinar, Cyrille Ewane Ngando will share his experience implementing Community-based Surveillance (CBS) in Northern Cameroon using the Nyss digital platform. The session will outline the approach taken to evaluate the system, drawing on the CDC framework for surveillance evaluation. Special emphasis will be placed on the qualitative aspects of the evaluation to understand how the system operates in practice at the community level.
The webinar will also provide a summary of the main findings from the evaluation and highlight key lessons learned that can help strengthen CBS systems and improve early detection of health events. Cyrille will discuss how CBS can play a critical role in responding to health emergencies at the grassroots levelas it ensures that communities are better equipped to detect and respond to public health threats.
