CARe Project Webinar on 22 October 2025

The CARe project invites you to their upcoming webinar led by Dr Geoffrey Banda on “Building Local Capacity for Cancer Care: Technological Transitions in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing”.

Publication Date:

Dr Geoffrey Banda is a lecturer in Global Food Security & Innovation and Co-Director of the Institute for Innovation Generation (Innogen Institute) at the University of Edinburgh. Dr Banda is an experienced researcher in innovation, finance, and governance. He is specialised in life sciences, the pharmaceutical sector in low- and middle-income countries, and emerging technologies.

This webinar will explore the crucial role of local pharmaceutical manufacturing. In doing so, it will make a compelling case for the technological transition toward local production of pharmaceuticals. In particular, the matter of improving access to cancer care in low- and middle-income countries will be at the center of this event.

This session draws on insights from the recently published open access-volume Cancer Care in Pandemic Times: Building Inclusive Local Health Security in Africa and India. The book is the result of a research collaboration across Eastern African countries, India, and the UK. It offers practical lessons for integrating health innovation, industrial capabilities, and policy to enhance both cancer care and national health security. During the webinar, the discussion will focus on how the COVID-19 pandemic exposed vulnerabilities in global health supply chains, with particular emphasis on the urgent need to strengthen local industrial-health linkages.

The webinar will take place on WebEx on 22 October 2025 from 4 to 5 pm (CEST).
