Publication Date:

This webinar will focus on the progress made in eliminating Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) in Zimbabwe. It will highlight the integration of public health interventions with community engagement to achieve NTD elimination. Dr Pfavayi, who has done extensive work in the field of NTDs, particularly in pediatric schistosomiasis, will share insights into its implications for NTD control and elimination in Zimbabwe.

Dr Lorraine Pfavayi holds a Bachelor’s in Biochemistry and a Master’s in Biotechnology from the University of Zimbabwe. Furthermore, she has a DPhil in Clinical Medicine from the University of Oxford, where she studied fungal allergic diseases in regions co-endemic with parasitic infections. She has gained practical experience in infectious disease research through internships at a specialist asthma allergy clinic, a pharmaceutical company, and the National Institute for Health Research. This work has strengthened her interest in bridging academia, clinical practice, and industry. Currently, Lorraine is a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Tackling Infections to Benefit Africa (TIBA) partnership at the University of Edinburgh. There she is focusing on pediatric schistosomiasis in Zimbabwe. She also works with NTD Affected Voices, amplifying the experiences of people living with the morbidity and  disability caused by NTDs. In this role, she is also ensuring they are effectively represented in policies and interventions that impact their lives.

The webinar will take place on WebEx on 19 March 2025 from 3 pm to 4 pm (CET).
