CARe Project – Webinar on 21 May 2025
The CARe project invites you to their upcoming webinar in May led by Prof Caroline Trotter on: Prevalence and impact of meningitis in Africa, with a particular focus on the African meningitis belt.
This webinar with Prof Trotter provides a glimpse into the epidemiology of bacterial meningitis in sub-Saharan Africa and the ongoing efforts to defeat Meningitis by 2030. The talk will describe some of the successes of vaccination in reducing the burden of meningitis and future opportunities and challenges.
Prof Caroline Trotter leads global health innovation as Professor of Global Health at the University of Cambridge and Director of Cambridge-Africa. Championing African research leadership, she fosters equitable research partnerships between African institutions and Cambridge. At Imperial College London, she heads the Vaccine Impact Modelling Consortium, shaping global vaccine policy through data-driven insights. A pioneer in bacterial meningitis research, her work informs outbreak prevention strategies worldwide. Trotter co-chairs the WHO’s mission to eliminate meningitis by 2030, advising governments on life-saving interventions. Her leadership bridges academia, policy, and frontline action to transform global health outcomes.
The monthly webinars with topic experts are held as part of the CARe training programme in applied public health research. These webinars allow discussions on current public health issues.

In this webinar, Daniel Waruingi highlighted the situation of AMR on the African continent through a contextualised lens and showcased interventions that can be taken by local actors to mitigate the largely ignored burden of AMR in the region.
